Red Standalone Ref by Ophiuchae Red Standalone Ref by Ophiuchae
Species: Spineback
Type: Red Giant
Gender: Male
Form: Feral
Rune: "The Burning Devil

Enhanced Eyesight: Special cones allow for the detection of UV light along side normal visual light
Thermal Pores: Small pores near the nose allow the Spineback to "smell" heat.
Mandibles: The lower jaw can split into three parts, each capable of being moved independently. When resting, they can lock together through the use of the curled canine teeth on the main segment.
The Spine: A spare spinal cord runs down Red's back from his skull down past his shoulder blades, protected by thick armor plates. It can take over full function in the case of injury to Red's neck.
UV Radiation: Energy stored up in the nodes can be channeled into one blast or a constant stream of solar energy.
Regeneration: Provided enough energy is stored up at the time of death, the Spineback is able to survive and heal from catastrophic injuries. Non-fatal injuries are not affected by this ability.
Form Shift: The Spineback may use a large quantity of energy to "shed" it's form and rebuild itself into a form better suited for the current situation.
Rampage: As a Red Giant, Red is violent by nature. Once he gets going, he is able to block out pain, seemingly consumed by rage.
Red is extremely strong like most of his species, thick muscled limbs help support a heavy, armored body. Armor plates coat the entire topside of red, topped off with a external spinal column. The armor is thick, almost impenetrable, but slows him down and makes him almost clumsy when he moves. Thick armor on the tail makes it an extremely powerful weapon, but leaves him unable to move it very far in either direction.
Nodes along his body serve as points to draw in or expel UV energy, with special tattoo'd lines serving as "circuitry" to keep the nodes efficient and balanced. However, they are extremely sensitive and any damage to the nodes is extremely painful and slow to heal. When fully charged, the nodes emit steam every time he exhales.
Like the rest of his species, Red lacks reproductive organs, making traditional reproduction impossible. As such, no two Spinebacks are related, although Spinebacks that form on the same planet or from the same burst of UV energy may claim each other as siblings.
Red is quick to anger, and slow to forgive. He is violent and holds himself on a very high, self-centered pedestal. He is the embodiment of destructive greed and will use brute force to accomplish his goals. Like most Spinebacks, especially the warlike Red Giant varieties, he has a very strong primal urge to destroy. He praises the sun like a deity, acknowledging that the UV light from the sun is responsible for a majority of his powers. He travels from world to world, drawn by particularly strong sources of UV energy.
